Escenas de Amor

1982 - MOTOWN

TMLP 6028 (Italian Pressing) - CD 37463-6327-2 (USA Pressing)

My Rating:

COMMENTS:

Jose's first latin album after many years, this record was immediately a great success in Latin America and Spain where Jose became a Star after many years of silence. In many ways, this is one of his best latin albums, with a good variety of different musical genres, a great guitar duet with Carlos Santana in "Samba Pa Ti", a nice version of a theme of the "Concierto de Aranjuez", an electric latin-rock piece like "Malas Costumbres" (Evil Ways) and a good number of old english songs of Jose's translated into spanish; also notably "No Hay Sombra Que Me Cubra" and the great hit "Volvere Alguna Vez". A great production with nice orchestral arrangements and a Grammy nomination for best Latin pop performance.

ORIGINAL BILLBOARD REVIEW

Originally reviewed for week ending 8/7/82

Motown's first entry in the Latin field shows they know where the market is at. Starting with Jose's Cover of "Samba Pa Ti," with Carlos Santana's participation, this LP traverses a landscape of rich orchestrations and full-blown studio lushness. Feliciano's trademark strangled-sob vocals should sit well on listeners accustomed to Latin outpouring of sentimiento. Destined for heavy radioplay in the growing Latin ballad format.

Fianlly this great Lp is released on CD again in 2003, with the 1983 Motown album "Me Enamore" and with a great Dvd with a live concert of these songs in Chile, in a unique package called "Ayer Hoy Y Siempre"
